This new home sits on a ravine lot with a river running through the property, the permit process was lengthy - the house had to be built at the back of the lot which left a long narrow strip to create the pool and entertaining area. There was a lot to fit into a very small space despite the overall two acre lot size since most of the property is deemed flood plain because of the river.
The project was completed between October and May including a great deal of winter construction.
Stone entry pillars set the tone of the garden and a low stone wall was needed up the entire length of the 200' driveway to create a planter for the Hornbeam hedge we added to block a large public park next to the home. We installed the gunite swimming pool and spa with Owen Sound coping and flagstone patios. The pool includes a raised rear wall with a three spout custom made water feature and an endless pool swim jet system for exercise.
We designed an outdoor kitchen with a BBQ, Wine Cooler, Beer Fridge, warming oven, and an ice machine.
We also designed a fully heated pool cabana with a full bathroom, a steam shower, and a sauna, and glass doors overlooking the spa allow for quick entry into the spa in colder months.
A heated granite cobble stone driveway was created to give the house and garden a timeless feeling, the clients are from Ireland and wanted the garden to make them feel at home.
Large natural stone slabs planted with thyme were selected as the front garden surface, we constructed a large winding stone staircase that leads to a private two hole golf course we carved out of this narrow but deep two acre lot in the heart of Oakville.
We added pergolas and decks on the front and back of the house and on the cabana to create continuity in the architectural design of the house and garden.
